POWER

I gave you my heart
I gave you the power
To take me to the heights
To paint my life
To make me surrender
To begin and end
My day with you
To occupy every
Nook and corner of my being
To make my heart
Beat for you
To sing and dance for
The silent melodies
To think for you
To wait for you....
I gave you my heart
I gave you the power
....to hurt too.

  5. So often that which can be most beautiful is also given the power to hurt us. Love is one of those things, as your poem so well expressed. Thanks for participating in Poetry Jam. Here's mine:

  9. Love sometimes can hurt so badly, yet we can't help ourselves. We give our hearts away knowing that the pain will come. This is beautiful and so so true.

  10. I ponder this quite often, how opening up and becoming vulnerable to that other person completely changes us and how we perceive the whole world. There's a beautiful quote that I posted not long ago on my FB wall:

"It is a risk to love. What if it doesn't work out? But oh, what if it does?" - Peter McWilliams

I love the possibilities that thought represents! :)

  11. Sadly, when we open up to allow love in, sometimes it hurts us but the pain also teaches us too but, if you've never loved you've yet to live (I believe)
    Lovely, sad, true.

  18. It's so true. We do give away our power, but I also think that in so doing we become more powerful!

  19. Wow. What a poignant and powerful poem for the letter "P".

Sometimes being vulnerable makes us able to love more deeply.
